Preschool
Before kids start school, they need to work on one-to-one correspondence. This means matching. Think about setting the table or handing things out. We are looking for things that require one object to go to one object.
Examples include:
- People to chairs
- Cookies to children
- Plates to people
Elementary
Once kids start school, they need to work on counting. This could be straight counting or skip counting. This is a very important skill for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. Your kids will need to practice this skill well into middle school. Start with counting by ones, then tens, fives, two, threes, and finally fours.
Middle School
Once in middle school, the time to practice multiplication facts have started. You cannot know your multiplication tables fast enough. The faster you know them the better. Practice makes perfect. By this time in school, you have learned the basics and you are just adding to them. What you are doing is adding more steps. You will get through the steps faster if you know your facts.
