In fact, trade products and services for vacation getaways, rental condos and other travel related services has become so popular in New England of Commerce has created a special division to meet travel demand.
"We have a large membership in the travel industry – hotels, time shares, ski lodges, boat rental, travel agencies, etc. These members presented gift certificates to their stores in exchange for the services they need to run their organizations, things like the maintenance of its facilities, IT and advertising. By contrast, many of our members are trying to use their money to barter away. The travel division new pair of assists members on both sides of the equation, "said Ken Meharg, CEO of New England Commerce.
The practice of bartering has been around since the time of caves (eg, a plumber do some work for a CPA, which in turn taxes the plumber). In a barter organization, members have access to products and services of all members. So, the plumber can do the work of the CPA in barter, but then you can choose to "spend" barter dollars that has accumulated in other product or service offered by other members. As the use of an ocean side condo for a week.
There is some exchange of cash involved with barter. A transaction fee is 7.5 percent of the barter organization and members are responsible for paying taxes "barter dollar they earn. But mostly, a trade organization allows the holidays to many small business owners, without drastically affecting your cash flow.
"In today's economy, many people are cutting back on vacation. For Trade gift certificates for stays in their establishments, our members entertainment business are filling rooms and booking reservations. That helps to keep its staff busy and provides an opportunity to create new businesses, which we hope leads to return of business and strong word-of-mouth referrals, "said Meharg.
